Best Organic/Natural Products?

I've been trying for awhile to switch to greener personal care products, but with their cost and limited availability, it's been difficult to know which ones to get and where to get them. So, I thought I'd use this reverse Works for Me Wednesday to ask:

What is your favorite organic/natural personal care product* (or recipe) that really works?

*I define personal care products as ones that are used on the body and face. For example, sunscreen, moisturizer, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help and don't forget to enter my giveaway for an UnPlanned DVD!

  1. i make deodorant using the recipe from passionate homemaking that is awesome--coconut oil, cornstarch, and baking soda. love!

i have a recipe on my blog for a nice laundry soap, too.

i have friends who like the no 'poo method for washing/conditioning hair with baking soda and apple cider vinegar, and i'm about to try the oil cleanse method for my face--castor and olive oil, and no need for soap or moisturizer.

i'm interested to read what others say!

  2. I wash my hair with vinegar and now I don't need conditioner and can wash less often than when I used shampoo!

In winter, I wash my face by rubbing honey on it before I get into the shower and then rinsing it off when it starts getting drippy (yum!). It's very moisturizing and naturally antibacterial. In summer, my face is too oily for that and I wash with soap.

My favorite soap is Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap, which is all-natural with some organic ingredients. It seems expensive, but it's very concentrated, so it lasts a long time.

I love Tom's of Maine toothpaste and deodorant. Natural yet effective!

Nature's Gate sunscreen seems to work fine, but we really don't use sunscreen much unless we are going to be in direct sun for long periods. As we've improved our diet and been using natural soap, we've become less prone to sunburn!

Herbal Armor insect repellent is awesome!

But my absolute favorite more-natural personal care product is the reusable menstrual cup. It's made of plastic, but because it's reusable for 10 years, it's a lot less environmentally damaging than even the organic and unbleached cotton disposable stuff, AND it's more comfortable and convenient!
